Lots of attacks in the darkest dungeon will bleed out or infect your heroes. The firewood is an item which will be given to you on longer trips before your journey into darkest dungeon. You'll usually only be able to use a specific skill once per character.
Oh okay that's probably my issue. As long as your weapons and skills are upgraded decently, you should have a good time. This item will be handed to you on lengthier journeys prior to your entry into darkest dungeon, and it may be used to build a fire.
This is one of the most important uses of camping, as it allows you to keep your party alive and healthy. Any buffs given last for 4 battles. There are no ways to find more of it in dungeons in the base game.

Tc, also be aware that after awhile camping will cause your party to be surprised right after camping and you will have a battle. As other people have said, you can only camp on medium and long expeditions and you will receive one or two campfire logs respectively. Camping is started by activating firewood in your inventory.
